Our Rural refuge

Our refuge is a tribute to the memory of a bygone era, when humans and animals lived together and struggled for survival. Cows were taken to graze at Regajo Lobos, a meadow of green grass, with haylofts for storing hay in winter. It’s an essential landmark for those who lived and still live in the village.

San Bartolo, as the locals affectionately call it, is one of those hamlets integrated into what is known as depopulated Spain.

It is surrounded by mountains, in the background at the highest point, in one direction, Peña Negra and El Hornillo (next to the current La Covatilla ski resort), in the other, Pico de Neila.

Despite its small population, it has kept its essence intact: the stone and adobe houses, the tiled facades, the main square with its large poplar tree as an icon of the town.
